This non accredited position provides the ideal opportunity to gain experience in a wide variety of anaesthetic services. The hospital performs over 6500 operations annually in the areas of general surgery, colorectal, paediatric, vascular, ENT, urology and gynaecology, with a good spilt between elective and emergency procedures. The hospital also has a busy obstetric unit (approximately 2,300 births per year) where the anaesthetic registrar can further develop their epidural skills. Registrar - Critical Care Unit (58969)

(Intensive Care, High Dependency and Coronary Care)
The Critical Care Unit is a level 2 unit of 11 beds. Six beds are ventilated beds and the unit accommodates up to a further five High Dependency and Coronary Care patients. The unit provides all the services of a level 2 unit including haemofiltration. Approximately 200 ventilated intensive care patients are treated per year.
These positions provide good experience in critical care for Registrars interested in a career in ICU or Emergency Medicine. The positions are accredited for basic training from the Joint Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine.
The opportunity exists to combine rotations in CCU with Anaesthetics and/or Emergency upon request.

There are 33 cubicles with state-of-the-art equipment, a 12-bed acute short stay observation ward, 4 paediatric cubicles and 4-8 paediatric short stay observation beds. The Emergency Department is staffed by specialists in Emergency Medicine and Paediatricians.
