This position is suitable for trainees post fellowship examination.
Box Hill Emergency Department has 42,000 patient attendances per year. Approximately 18% of these are paediatric patients. Our admission rate to the ward is over 30%.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING
Training time (5 hours per week) is allocated to each registrar. All registrars (except the day shift registrar who is on the floor) are expected to participate in the organised Thursday afternoon sessions.
RESEARCH

(Intensive Care, High Dependency and Coronary Care)
The Critical Care Unit is a level 2 unit of 11 beds. Six beds are ventilated beds and the unit accommodates up to a further five High Dependency and Coronary Care patients. The unit provides all the services of a level 2 unit including haemofiltration. Approximately 200 ventilated intensive care patients are treated per year.
These positions provide good experience in critical care for Registrars interested in a career in ICU or Emergency Medicine. The positions are accredited for basic training from the Joint Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine.
The opportunity exists to combine rotations in CCU with Anaesthetics and/or Emergency upon request.

A new state of the art Emergency Department was built and opened in March 2004 and sees approximately 49,000 patients a year. There are 33 cubicles with state-of-the-art equipment, a 12-bed acute short stay observation ward, 4 paediatric cubicles and 4-8 paediatric short stay observation beds. The Emergency Department is staffed by specialists in Emergency Medicine and Paediatricians.
